Ministry of Health UAE has Assures Augmentin Antibiotic Syrup Safe in Clinical Pharmaceutical Practice

Waqar Ahmad Kamboh (www.pharmareview.wordpress.com). Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Medical Practices and Licensing at the Ministry of Health, assured that the Augmentin Antibiotic Syrup “165 mg” is safe and does not include any warnings of pharmaceutical side effects. One of the press agencies stated that the government of Hong Kong, instructed Glaxo Smith Kleine to prevent the manufacturing of any infant antibiotics, which contains any chemical products used in plastic industry as stated by the European Specifications for Pharmaceutical Products. The agency mentioned that the government of Hong Kong said that all the tests done on augmentin antiobiotic syrup-a joint British, French product-contains unsafe plasticisers known as DIDP.

The tests led to a high concentration of chemical products in the infant syrup twice than the specified amount of the European pharmaceutical association. These chemical products may have side effects on infants’ liver and hormones on the long run.

The UAE Ministry of Health through the medical practices sector communicated with the GCC Regional Office for Glaxo Smith Kline to ensure that the serial number of the medicine in Taiwan is not contained in the UAE.

Furthermore, Dr. Ali Ziwar, Director of Medical Sector and Pharmaceutical Registration in Gulf Glaxo Smith Kline stated that the food and health authority in Taiwan tested the augmentin syrup, which proved the presence of a plastic product, which belongs to the DIDP Group that may have side effects on human bodies.

Meanwhile, Glaxo Smith Kline confirmed that it purchased the augmentin syrup “165 mg” in bottles from Saudi Arabia and carries a different serial number that the one mentioned in Taiwan which is originally imported from France.

Throughout its almost 100 year history, FIP’s priorities have expanded both literally and figuratively to meet the needs and expectations of the profession in expanding healthcare services and integrating emerging scientific developments. Changes in pharmacy and the emergence of Pharmacy Practice as a cornerstone of the profession have lead FIP to become globally visible for its advocacy on behalf of the role of the pharmacist in the provision of healthcare, while still maintaining its grounding in the pharmaceutical sciences.

In parallel, the membership of FIP has evolved to become the most extensive global pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences network. This network is continuing to expand its presence and influence through partnerships with some of the world’s leading healthcare, educational and scientific institutions.

FIP’s highest organ is the FIP Council. In the Council, all national pharmaceutical associations (Member Organizations’) and national pharmaceutical scientific associations (Predominantly Scientific Member Organizations’) are represented and have voting rights. FIP’s Observer Organizations, supra-national pharmaceutical (scientific) associations, also participate in the Council but do not have voting rights

Service Structure of Pharmacists as the Constitution Guarantees the Equality without Discrimination

Farooq Bashir Butt; Secretary District Quality, Control Board, Gujranwala, Pakistan (Pharmaceutical Review). The health sector is a neglected area and we are far behind as compared to the developed world. There is hardly any concept of pharmaceutical care in our society. Universities are producing Pharm Ds but their role in society is yet to be defined and recognized. Owing to prevailing circumstances, most of the pharmacists are leaving Pakistan for a better future.

Therefore; it is request to the provincial government to immediately announce the implementation of service structure of pharmacists as the Constitution guarantees equality of every citizen without any discrimination.

Vitamin-C May Help You to Live Longer

Ajaz Ali (Pharmaceutical Review). Dr. Linus Pauling, a two-time Nobel Prize winner, took high doses of vitamin C for almost forty years and died at the ripe old age of ninety-three. He believed that his life was prolonged for twenty years because of his high vitamin C intake. Sounds great, and Pauling certainly makes a valid argument but unfortunately there isn’t any strong evidence to support this claim.

Vitamin C and vitamin E, often referred to as antioxidant vitamins, have been suggested to prevent cell damage in humans, thereby lowering the risk of certain chronic diseases including high blood pressure, stroke, and asthma. Many studies have tried to prove this, but with no obvious results. Very few side effects exist with vitamin C, so there is no major downside to adding a vitamin C supplement to your daily regimen, though occasional reports of nausea, heartburn, gas, or diarrhea are noted with higher doses. A more prudent approach is to eat a balanced diet including fruits and vegetables and avoid dangerous activities like smoking.

Only the Health Ministry and Health Departments of Pakistan; Working without Proper Pharmaceutical Service Structure

Qurat Ul Yasmin May 31, 2011 (Pharmaceutical Review). This is apropos of injustice done to pharmacists in the health department, Punjab. I’m at present working as secretary of the District Quality Control Board, Gujranwala. I have done my M.Phil (Pharmacy), besides MBA and LLB. I’m at present working in BPS 17. It means we really need service structure for pharmacy profession. Thus; the health department to suppose to award us at least grade 18 and also submitted our annual reports of the last 18 years. There are lots of pharmacists going through this crisis. But it seems that Punjab government is indifferent to the problems of pharmacists because it their least priority.
